which sd card
 

i have just purchased a canon 550d and was hoping someone could advise me on what memory card would the best to buy without spending silly money, im confused by the classes and then different speeds?

I have a couple 32G cards that are the 45mb extreme and they work fine for my 60D. The faster the better for good Video

Class 10
 

Look for a 'CLASS 10' card and you won't go wrong.The capacity depends on howmany photos you take and which size you set in camera. But what ever you choose it will never be enough!

My Lexar class 6 cards are faster than one "house brand" (Blacks Camera - Canada) class 10 card I have.

* When choosing a memory card I'd stick to the better known brands. Sandisk and Lexar both make excellent memory cards.
If you're shooting film you'll want something large like a 32GB or 64GB as film takes up a lot more space. If you're just shooting stills then a 16GB will be fine.

The jump in price from the Sandisk 30mb/s to 45mb/s has a big impact. The one that Dave linked above is a great deal. If that's still out of your price range and you're willing to sacrifice some speed then these 30mb/s cards are also a good deal.

If you're shooting a lot action photography or film I’d go for a faster memory card as you'll be frustrated if it's too slow to keep up with you.

Hi i have the 550d and the manual states class 6 or above I have both class 6 and class 10 they all work fine

I understood that the SD card CLASS system was an industry standard for minimum read / write speed, so I don't understand how a class 6 is faster than a class 10!

I've just bought a SanDisk Extreme 32GB for my 450D camera. Haven't used it yet though.
