Even more fame?

This is another plug! Hope you'll forgive me.

Just got a phone call, from the PR department, of the college where I did a photography course last autumn. About my 'amazing story,' and could they please arrange an interview with the local rag?

(I entered a writing competition when I started the course and got shortlisted. See my post 'Shortlisted.')

I agreed, as long as I did win the competition. Find it quite scary, as I'm not a talker!

Apparently the college is full of posters urging people to vote for me. I'll be 'famous' for my writing, rather than my ohotography.

If anyone wants to see for themselves, here's the link:

Story is written under my official married name: Ineke Ely.

All votes welcome!

Sounds great, glad it is taking off for you :-)

Thanks Karen, Chris and Cathus.

The interview, if it takes place, won't do much Karen. The local rag has become more of a community newspaper than a 'proper' one.
It may even be quite embarrassing; all about that poor, nearly blind old biddy, still doing her stuff etc.

In 'normal' life I don't dwell on my lack of sight (only when someone accuses me of cutting him/her dead in the street), but in photography it can be quite a big handicap, and I do tell people. It encourages them (I hope) to offer any advice that might be helpful.

What kind of writing did you do on the course? Maybe post some of it here? I'd like to see it because I used to do a bit of writing, mostly short stories and poems, although I don't do it anymore. And I was never any good lol

I did everything, from short stories via 'poetry' ( more like crude rhymes) to non ficton. Some of the early stuff was posted on abctales.com (under the name reinardina) and is still there; I've forgotten the password, so can't take it off.

I also had stuff on a more literary site, but they closed down.

The same local rag of my prospective interview, has an 'opinion' column, where I had my opinions regularly published. Looked really professional, as it was a proper column, with a column name, author's name and author's picture at the top. It was mainly used by politicians, chairpeople of things, business people, trade union people, campaigners and yours truly.

But still, my writing is only recognised when I write about photography!

One Hit Wonder

Karen, I found something that might apply to me (ha ha) in a few weeks time!

This is approximately ten years old, and predates the whole celebrity culture; it's stil very valid I think, in a world where soapstars pontificate on world affairs.

One hit wonder.

I’m the latest one hit wonder,
Fame and fortune came my way.
Chat show hosts demand my presence,
I am on TV all day.

My opinion is now valued:
Do I buy from C&A?
What about the world of pop stars?
Do I have meals on a tray?

Is there anywhere I want to
Go for holidays and fun?
Do I need a bit of culture,
Or just sea and sand and sun?

Do I think schools are important?
Do they teach our kids enough?
Do three R’s still have a meaning?
Don’t I think our youth is rough?

What about the solid traffic,
Clogging up our city streets?
Should there be more public transport,
With free tickets, special treats?

Can I show the breathless viewers
What it is that makes me tick?
No one listens to my answers,
Yet I never miss a trick.

And then, suddenly, it’s over,
No one seems to find it strange.
I’m old news and not important,
Victim of relentless change.

Very good! :-) Now all you have to do is think of a way of combining your poetry with your photography. Either writing a poem and thinking of a shot to go alongside it, pasting the text of your writing on the photo in some way or writing a poem about a shot! :-)

Duane Michals combines photographs and writing, you could be the female version! :-)
Btw, the celeb poem is very true. I watched something called celebrity coach trip this week with all the has-beens on it. They were all so desperate to regain their fame, it was a bit cringy at times!

Never thought of combining rhymes with photos, or photos with rhymes.
I quite used to enjoy nonsense rhymes, maybe I can get back into it.

Don't know Duane Michals, I'll look him up and see if he has anything to fear from me!
