Please could some one advise here. I have at last got my Nikon D90 and am over the moon with it. However I wanted to purchase a cable release for it because i fancy having a go at shooting some fireworks over halloween ( and my hubby surprised me with a tripod) - easier said than done. Sent for the nikon Mc-Dc 2 cable as recommended by nikon from two different companies and neither have worked. Thought i might be being dumb as so new to digital slrs and checked out the last one purchased at my local calumet store - they tried it on one of their D90's and didn't work either. Then was advised to send for Calumet's version - came today doesn't fit:mad::confused: Rang Calumet to be told that that port was changed recently in the D90 and not all cables fit now and some cables that previously were suitable now don't work. if anyone has any advice i would really appreciate it before i spontaneously combust.

Without knowing where you purchased the camera I would say go back to where you purchased the camera to get your cable realise, you could always try a infra-red realise or the self timer.

My only other suggestion would be any and all Nikon stockists who could despatch by courier.

That sounds like a really annoying problem you have there. Have you tried speaking to the retailer you bought your camera from and get them to speak to their suppliers or even Nikon direct and let them find the correct cable for you. You are covered under the Sale of Goods Act, that what they supply must be fit for purpose and it must do what it describes. As it doesn't work you are entitled to a replacement that is configured to work with your equipment. Best of luck.

I have the Nikon MC-DC2 for my D90 and have no trouble at all, some places are advertising the cable to work with the D80 as well as the D90 it won't as they have a different socket on the camera, make sure you are buying a genuine Nikon MC-DC2 and not an after market one just stating it will fit the D90 and I would find it hard to believe that Nikon would change the socket at a later date for the remote cord as this would also effect the gps unit you can buy.

Thanks for all the above advice - actually bought the camera from Calumet and they were very helpful ringing nikon etc. have since had another phone call back from main Calumet office who are going to look into the wrong part that i was advised to get and to see if they can get me a replacement so at least thats something:) Hopefully i will have something sorted in time for fireworks - all i have to figure out now is how to get the shot i want:eek:

The best general setting for taking fireworks is to place the camera on a tripod, put it into manual and set the ISO to 400, the aperture to f/8 and the shutter speed to 30 seconds. Then you should capture between three and six firework explosions in one frame and they'll look even more spectacular than the actual display will in real time.
