Shortlisted!
 

Not for a photograph, but because of my interest in Photography.

When I started my ten week photography course last autumn, I found, on the College website, a writing competition with a good prize: either a MacbookPro, or £1000 worth of John Lewis vouchers.

Creative writing was my previous hobby, before photography took hold, so I dusted off the writing part of the brain, typed my 500 words, sent the email and forgot about it.

Till I received an email, just before Christmas, telling me, my story was one of the five shortlisted. Great Joy!

I can be cynical at times and did not quite believe it, till I saw it with my own eyes. And I just found it this morning; for anyone interested, here is the link;

The story was written under my married name: Ineke (Dutch abbreviation of Reinardina) Ely. (City College Southampton.)

I remember you mentioning this before. I have tried to look at the shortlisted entries butthe link won't work from my work PC. Will try at home tonight, but good luck anyway, imagine the MacPro!!!! Wow, I love the one I got at Christmas.

Getting short listed on any contest is a good thing.

If I win, I'm not sure I'll go for the MacbookPro to be honest. I will definitely opt for the £1000.00 worth of John Lewis vouchers, as the laptop was reduced to £919.00 in the sales. I could spend the eighty quid on something else, but .... The Macbook has a smaller screen than my present laptop, my software would not work, my two external hard drives are for pc etc etc.

For that money you can do so much more. Maybe a proper DSLR? But I'm still not convinced it would work for me. So far a bridge suits me fine.

Another (non Apple) laptop? Put it towards the new kitchen I want, once my mother's house in Holland is sold? (That can take a while yet though.)

Go for a total wardrobe make-over? Furniture? Soft furnishings? Split it and treat hubby and Daughter to something nice, or rather give them their own vouchers?
You see that it becomes quite a problem! Aluxury problem, but a problem none the less.

I agree Don. During my 'creative writing' period, which lasted five years, I've tried and tried, and never got anywhere and lo and behold, I take up photography and my writing takes off!
Photography must be my thing, as it makes other things fall into place too.
