POTY:2011 Less Entries ????
Hi I would like to know how many entries there were this year compared to the last year when there were no entry Fees?
|
I don't know how many entries there were last year but on page 3 of this months magazine, Geoff Harris writes that there were 30,000 entries this year.

I wonder if the enteries were down this year as aresult of the charge?

See

Hi Abers, A list of the judges and their bios are on page 10 of the Feb issue of Digital Camera Magazine (with the cherry blossom on the front). Regards Nick |
One year (last year or the year before, can't remember) there were more than 110.000 entries. It really was the biggest photo competition then.
And if I stay strong, I will not enter next year, and so there will be even fewer entries! What interests me more, is who compiles the shortlists, as he/she/they wield the real power! |

Why does it matter how many people entered compared to last year? People had a choice when faced with the entry fee. They could either pay and enter or decide not to bother. Other photography competitions have far more expensive entry fees and you have a lot less entries for your money too.
I don't know how much something like this costs to run but I'd imagine it would be quite expensive. There are free photography competitions out there but not many with a £20,000 prize fund on the table. And the smaller ones can afford to be free because the amount of entries is considerably lower and therefore the admin of it would be less costly. Karen |
