light painting can someone help?

Has anyone got any advice on light painting?

i found this picture
http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=light+painting&hl=en&biw=1366&bih=622&gbv=2&tbm=isch&tbnid=PonGuSSqeAKlmM:&imgrefurl=http://diyphotography.net/painting_with_light&docid=NAGS3SXKHQ-fGM&imgurl=http://www.diyphotography.net/files/images/painting_with_light_glass.jpg&w=500&h=500&ei=d6YET-POBIzb8gOHo4jMAQ&zoom=1
on google images, the concept of it seems really cool and i wondered how the glass actually shows up in the picture, i thought you would only be able to see the light trails and not the actual glass?

also with this picture how does the man show so clear

am i missing something? or have the pictures just been edited somehow? can anyone help please?

The glass would be there because it does not move. The person, or parts of the person, do not show up because they are moving fast.

I have taken a 30 second exposure outside (using a ND filter) during the day and had people walk through the shot and not show up.

In the second photo, someone else has produced the light trail....or it is a composite, and the light trail was done on it's own and then the photos merged in Photoshop.

he could have just fired a flashgun in the second pic just to the left of the camera during the exposure.

Love a bit of Light painting I tend to use it mainly when im shooting automotive photos really makes the car 'pop' for the better part any one final image could be made up of anything from 7 -15 images all depends on the type of feel im going for but its a fantastic and fun method to play with :)
