Digital Download Costs....
Just bought Issue two for the Ipad....although its very nice read and its great for keeping all future magazines in one place why is it so expensive?
No subscription deals, ie 3 for £5 etc Surely it is a lot cheaper to produce one digital file for everyone to download than it is to physically print a 1000's of magazines. So gives us downloaders a break and decrease the cost per issue....PLEASE |
How much is it per issue?

Two things to remember on the pricing of digital editions.
One is that the mechanics are entirely in Apple's control - if they don't provide the ability to have a low starter price, then we can't do it. (And they don't - they are new at the magazines thing, I'm sure it will come in time). The other is that Mr Osbourne taxes digital mag sales but not print ones, so every penny we save in not printing the issue goes to Her Majesty instead. What with Apple's cut as well, substantially less of the price you pay makes it back to us than if you hand over your fiver to W H Smith. The bottom line is that if we cut the digital edition price substantially, and people then switched from print to digital, we'd be in all kinds of financial problems. We are hoping to be able to soon offer the best of both worlds - buy a print subscription and get access to the digital edition included. But as this requires making three separate databases talk to eachother, it make take a little while. Oh, and when you look at the subscription price, remember that because of the way apple does subs, you'll get 14 issues for your money, not the 12 you might expect. Stuart |
Thanks but that does not answer my question. I have tried to find a link to the digital subscription but can't seem to locate it. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

Hi....I downloaded mine through Itunes, if you have it just do a search for NPhoto @Sanderton Thank you for the detailed response, it puts it into perspective and you highlight things I and I'm sure most others didnt know. And how strange in this day and age with environmental issues that publishers get taxed for a non destructive digital download but do not for print. Crazy |
I bought issue 1 at the store, issue 2 from zineo (digital) for my Galaxy Tab and loved both of them....when the next issue comes out I'll probably buy a digital subscription from zineo which for us in the US is *substantially* cheaper ($50 US vs > $100 US) than the paper copy (obviously due to the elimination of shipping costs for overseas paper mags.) When looking at the mags in the store the best photography mags are from the UK (and probably others that are non-English publications from the Continent that they didn't carry.)

Here's the zinio link:
http://www.zinio.com/browse/publications/index.jsp?sch=true&productId=500648234 also when I looked again it is now $64 US....still compared with $28 every three months is a bargain.. |
