F300 to D200
I have 2 really good lens from my old Nikon F300 SLR and wondered if anyone knows where I can get a conversion mount to fit my D200? :)

As far as I'm aware, only the Nikon F3AF lenses can't be used with other Nikon cameras, all other F mount lenses can be used, but some may be manual focus only. :D

Yeah, I thought that too, the lens fit fine but the camera wont take the shot? it opens the shutter but wont close it, I have to switch off the camera? :(

What are the lenses? Pre-AI lenses can't be used on the D200, nor can the F3AF lenses. AI, AI-S and E lenses will only work in aperture priority and manual. All the AF lenses should work without restrictions (except the 3 for the F3AF of course).

Chris[/QUOTE] AI-S lenses work with the D200 or a least the 400mm F2.8 AIS does which I've got. :D |

There is an option with the D200, where you can enter the lens data into the camera, in this case you may need to do that to make it work. :D Check out Ken Rockwell's site as he give good advice on different Nikon lenses and which cameras work with different lenses. I'm pretty sure that apart from the F3AF lenses, it's only the very old pre-1977 lenses that don't fit the DX cameras (they still work on the FX bodies). On a number of the older lenses it's necessary to fix the aperture at the minimum (say f22) setting for them to work - I have no idea why!

Pre AI (pre-1977) lenses don't fit many digital bodies, though they can be adapted. They do fit the D40, D40x, D60, D5000, D3000, D3100, D5100 though there's no metering, and Nikon themselves list them as incompatible. They're only listed as fitting the F3, F4 and F6 at Nikonians. The F5 body can be adapted to accept them. Hi Guys
Thanks for the replies, both lens were purchased with a Nikon F301 in 1988, the first is a Vivitar 28-200 Macro, the second is a Nikkor 50mm 1.8. Like I said before both lens mount easy but the d200 wont operate with them attached? :( Den |

I think that's because the lens doesn't tell the camera what Aperture range it has, and will show up as error. :) |
