Deutsche Börse Photography Prize 2012

Just been reading Digital Camera's facebook page and came across this. The shortlisted entries for this years Deutsche Borse photography prize. Prize is £30,000. First impressions I am not impressed at all with the 4 finalists, but a more in depth look at the work is quite impressive. Rinklo Kawauchi what does everyone else think?

having seen the 4 example photos on that page, I'll not be delving any deeper.

First impressions - you're having a laugh.

Our photo club has an exhibition next month - and at least 90% of the (80) prints would blow that Deutsche-Borse collection out of the water. Reminds me of those dreadful pictures from New York in the 40s and 50s - they must have been desperate to promote their new heroes!

People have had similar thoughts on other forums and on facebook. Although the 4 shots are just one each from their bigger projects. I do like Rinklo Kawauchi's entry now I've seen more of the project.

I've got some very similar shots on my hard drive. Realise now, I've been entering the wrong competition!

Maybe we should both enter this one instead next year? ;-) Imagine what you could do with £30,000!! :-)

We desperately need a new kitchen, and as ours is only small, it could be one with solid gold handles! (Yuck!)

If you find out what the entry criteria are, and let me know, we can both have a go next year!
We could travel to the finale, or whatever it's called together. I'm already looking forward to it! :D

See you then!

Well my money would go toward renting a house in Newport and finally getting to Uni! :-) I think you have to submit a huge project, some of those projects in the shortlist took 15 years! Yep, we could travel down together, just so you know I'd be pretty dull, I don't drink or smoke and am no party animal lol

It says what the criteria is on the linked page:
The annual award of £30,000 rewards a living photographer, of any nationality, for a specific body of work in an exhibition or publication format, which has significantly contributed to the medium of photography in Europe between 1 October 2010 and 30 September 2011.
