Editing colour slides in Elements 9
 

I Have a lot of colour slides which I would like to transfer to my PC but I don't know how to get them to show properly . I Can scan them easily but bringing up the brightness without too much distortion is prooving rather difficult, any ideas on how to do it ? if it can be done , I have only recently aquired Elements 9 as I was using Elements 3 before.

Are you using a scanner that does slides properly? Just tossing them on a bed of a regular scanner will probably not give the best results.

If you are using a slide scanner (or a flatbed with a scanner option) then someone will be able to help out I am sure.

Or a flatbed scanner that has a built in lightbox and frame for holding the slides to be scanned

I did mine the cheap way, made a frame to fit the slides in stuck it on the side of a box put a daylight bulb behind and photographed them all with my siggie macro. You then have a raw file to play around with,took quite a while though, which I have. Good way of being selective with them too.

You could make prints of the slides you are really keen on and then scan them as jpegs, but with the price that could come to, it may be well worth it to invest in the slide scanner as shown in the link above.

I had a similar dilemma: I had contact sheets made of all my slides (they were unmounted) and then printed off the ones I really liked. I haven't scanned the prints as I do not have the time to sit and manipulate each one. I had to be ruthless with my collection though, as it ran into the high hundreds (slide film spools, not slides).

I have read all suggestions and the 1 I liked most was making a frame with a ilightbulb behind and taking photos of the slides , I have a Projector so I could use that to show the slides and then take them with my digital camera , thank-you for your ideas

why not just make a lightbox and sit it on top of a flatbed scanner as most multifunction printers have them

Most 'High Street' photography shops can put all your slides onto a DVD for you.... check them out first, they're not usually all that expensive.
