Job ... Did any one else know??
http://www.journalism.co.uk/media-jobs/photographer-features-editor/s75/a546370/
This little gem landed in my inbox this morning. It's for N-Photo mag .... as a Canon gal there is no way I would apply ... but hey .. .closing date isn't for another 6 days :D |
With the first issue out on 24th November, it brings a new meaning to working to tight deadlines! :D
"Strong knowledge of photoshop" implies a missed opportunity to put an emphasis on Nikon's own software in this Nikon-specific magazine. :( Chris |
Why, when Nikon's own software pales in comparison to others?
|
Because it's a Nikon-specific magazine, and the only place that the software might get any coverage. Note that the only product/manufacturer that gets a mention in the ad is Photoshop. No requirement for specific Nikon knowledge of any kind.

My guess would be that the successful applicant will have a Nikon Dxxx thrust into his/her hands and told to go take some pictures, then compare with previous/comparative models. I wouldn't have thought that a specific knowledge of the brand was particularly important. I've used Nikons, Canons, Minoltas, Rolleis, Hasselblads, Linhofs, Wilds, Mamiyas, and probably half a dozen other brands and only ever viewed them as 'Tools'. Some are more comfortable or easy to use than others and that determined my current choice (along with the mountain of glass I've collected over the years!). I presume you all noted that the ad's been in place since 17 October and with a closing date of 17 November, they won't be appointing anyone until after the launch date (24 Nov) by which time the editorial content of Edition 2 will be well underway, so I wouldn't imagine they're looking for any output from the candidate until Edition 3. You never know, you might spot a familiar name/face from the forum up there! |

I see what you're saying, but if the Nikon software is crap, then I'd rather they didn't cover it just because it's Nikon... |

Oh yeah! Had one of those too. An S1a. Screw thread on the lens was a damn nuisance. Bayonets on Nikons and Canons were much more suitable. Even Leica figured that one out - eventually. |
Depends on the printing house, but the majority of mags are printed two to three months prior to the issue date. Thus the February edition is in all likelihood being knocked together already. The new staff member was probably appointed a few weeks ago and is probably working on edition 4 as I write.

Hi everyone,
Just thought I'd clarify - as the job advert says, applications are open until 17th November, so no, the new staff member was not appointed "weeks ago", they are still looking, and if you think you fit the bill - why not go for it :) As for them working on Issue 4 already... I can clarify that also isn't true, as much as they might wish it to be the case on occasion ;-) Regards, Amy |
