Whats the diffrence betwwen the two models please?
I had my eyes on the Nikon D300 then I saw the D3100. Can anyone tell me what the diffrence is please? I do landscape and night photo's. I would like to know if there is a scene mode on it as I will be upgrading from my Fuji Finepix-60 compact. Thanks.

Have a look here. |
To me there is no question about it, the D300 is a photographer's camera and the D3100 is aimed at the general market. You only have to look at the price to see what is the better camera.
I remember having this discussion sometime ago about the D90 versus the 5100 and I pointed out at the time that if you are really interested in taking photographs and not video then the D90/D300 cameras are the ones to go for. Personally I use a camcorder for taking video, much easier to use and better results in my opinion. |
The 5100 has more to offer than just video. It carries the d7000 sensor which is better than the one found in the d90/d300 so you could argue if your really interested in taking photographs buy Nikon's best image quality aps-c cameras like the d5100/d7000. There are lots of things that make up a good camera and the d90 beats the d5100 in lots of ways, but lets face it image quality is number 1, so get a d5100/d7000 or wait for the d400 in the new year.

The D300 (discontinued over 2 years ago, the current model is the D300s and if it weren't for events in Japan & Thailand it might have been superseded by now) is the top model in the Nikon DX range; the D3100 is the lowest in the range. That said, I think that the D300s surpasses the D3100 in features, but the D3100 might be ahead in image quality. The D300s is a lot bigger and heavier than the D3100. The D3100 has scene modes, D300s does not. |
