CanonD50
I have recently bought a Canon D50. It takes beautiful photo's, but when downloaded onto the computer they all seem slightly over exposed. My question is, is the camera over exposing, or is the computer doing it.? and what can I do about it?

are you recording in raw or jpeg? and have you set any exposure compensation ? if you have does it correct the problem Ed |
Over exposure Problem
Am shooting in JPeg, and assumed this camera would use the correct expose setting itself

not if you've dialed in some exposure comp inadvertently which is quite easy to do I take it the histogram looks about right on the camera which mode are you shooting in is it the same with all of them. I have a 50D and never had a problem do you know how to shoot in M it might be worth shooting a few frames just to see what is causing the problem Ed |
Be careful its not your monitor, if the photos look good on playback then your settings may be too high on your montor. Its a problem I have when printing, looks great on the moniter but prints always come out darker.

How over exposed are the shots? Are they a little over (in which case I'd suggest dialling half a stop or so of negative exposure compensation and turning down the brightness of your monitor) or are they quite a long way over or even clipped (in which case try more negative exposure compensation).
If they're clipped badly you could have a camera problem but I don't know the 50D so I could be barking up the wrong tree (it's not like I've never done that before!). |
