Cokin Z pro advice please
 

I have recently bought a second hand Sigma 10-20 lens and would like to know if I can use a Cokin Z pro filter holder with this lens without vignetting.All advice appreciated.

It depends what filters / how many you're using, and whether you have a full-frame or cropped sensor. You might experience a small amount of vignetting with two or more filters at 10-12mm on a cropped sensor.

Thanks Matt I have a Canon 50D. Thinking of trying landscapes with the new lens but I see warehouse express only recommend the Cokin Z pro down to 20mm for 35mm format. How does this translate for crop sensors?
I hope I havent made a mistake buying the Sigma

You should be fine to be honest, but again it depends on the number of filters you have. If it's just one, you can reverse the holder to further reduce the chances of vignetting

Oh, and the Sigma rocks, don't even think about regretting it ;)

The Sigma 10-20 is a DC lens - not for use on full frame. I think it's the holder rather than the filters that cause vignetting, so the number of filters installed is not relevant. If the holder is visible in the shot, you might see clear light around the edge of the filters.

Let's not lose sight of the fact that Chubbythumper is talking about the Z series which shouldn't cause a problem at all. I use the P series with the wide-angle holder and it only vignettes up to about 12mm and I can live with that, If it gets desperate I'll cut it back to one filter slot which should solve that.

isnt the z pro a 100mm system? or is that the x pro, either way i would think it would be fine, and vingetting can always be removed in photoshop, either using the correction filter, or just by cloning it out, i get it at 18mm with my cokin p's, doesnt realy bother me,

If the Cokin is similar in dimensions to the standard Lee filter holder then it doesn't vignette on a 1.6 cropped camera at 10mm.

The 10-20 will fit a Canon full frame camera (unlike the non full frame EF lenses) but at 10 mm you get a complete circle of vignetting without anything attached so the question is a moot point on a full frame anyway.
