RADIO FLASH TRIGGER PROBLEM
Has anyone had a problem with the Hahnel Combi TF radio flash trigger? I have the Nikon model and use it with Nikon SB600 and the SB700 speedlights and my D300 camera. It works OK as a shutter release but as a flash transmitter it is intermittant. I've tried new batteries and making sure that all fittings are tight but still it fails to fire the flash on some occasions even when the flash and camera are close together.

I had one for my birthday, funny enough on mine flash was fine and shutter didn't work got it replaced and it is fine now. Would suggest your is faulty.

You are happy that the flash is fully recharged? If it's firing on full power it may take several seconds to recharge between shots.

That's a good point.

forgot to add that if the batteries aren't fully charged this will also take longer for the flash to recharge.

I know I've been caught out wondering why the flash hasn't fired and realising it's because the batteries are running down and the flash takes much longer to charge up.

Yes, I did make sure that the ready light was on each time and that all batteries were charged.

The only thing I could suggest then is changing the batteries on the radio trigger, if you accidentally leave them switched on or they get switched on in your bag, they will drain the battery.

I found this out to my cost once and went out & bought some spare batteries for my triggers, if that doesn't work then I'd contact the vendor and get them to check it to see if it's faulty. (have you tried them on another camera?)

Have you tried to trigger the flash by using the test button on the transmitter? The reason I ask is that sometimes transmitters do not make a good contact in the hotshoe and therefore won't fire properly when you hit the shutter release. If it fires ok using the test button, that is the problem.

I have had the Hahnel Combi TF radio flash trigger for some time and had no trouble what so ever. The only prob I have had is that the flash has taken time to charge and the triggers battery ran out.

Good point. It does usually work when the button on the transmitter is pressed but not always when the shutter is fired. Thanks!
