Announcement 18 October: merging of 1D and 1Ds lines?
That is the latest.
1D/1Ds line is about to be amalgamated. (Name Unknown)

the latest from where?
I don't believe it for a minute, certainly not with those specs which are extremely similar to the 1D MkIV which has been out nearly 2 years
It will be the 1D X. http://www.canon.com/news/2011/oct18e.html It is mentioned down the release.

I see there's a story at Tech radar:
I can see users of the 1DS family being quite disappointed with this if it is the end of the DS range
It is the end of the 1Ds line. They are merging into one line now. Maybe that means the long rumoured 3D may come about (3D only being the name, not the functionality).
Oooooh I'll buy two one to keep in the car and one to pop in my pocket;)
It is a shame the 1d and 1ds are being merged really as there was a nice price gap between the two not that I could ever afford or justify either of them unless I turned pro which I may just be ready for on my 70th birthday;)
We are of course due a refresh of the 7D and 5D now as well the DSLR cameras are now trailing the new Powershots which have Digic 5 processors.
