Lightroom one- question?
Hi Troopers,
A long long time ago i purchased Lightroom 1 and shortly after managed to lose it...i actually never got to the downloading stage. Yesterday i found the little devil hiding in a box so would now like to use it however one question comes to mind.......is there a free download to bring this up to Lightroom #3 standard or as i guess is it a pay up to upgrade.? Is there REALLY that much difference between 1 and 3? Any tips welcome:) Cheers John |
Yes, there it would cost money to upgrade. Not sure how much from 1 to 3. Yes, there is a big difference between 1 and 3, 3 is much more usable. Too many things to mention.

Thanks for the reply Don.
So it seems it may be worth paying the extra to upgrade by the sound of your valued comment? I'll do some costings to see if its all worth it or just purchase the #3 outright. Cheers again :} |
Definitely worth the upgrade in my opinion. Plus, would LR1 even work with your shots (assuming you take RAW) and equipment?

Funny you should say that Matt..... i am having troubles uploading RAW [CR2 ] into L/R #1...it doesnt seem to be compatible. I have a Canon 40D and 50D. Also i cannot find where i can pay/upgrade from #1 to #3??? Any tips there? OR Should i just buy #3 outright....i also have CS3....is there any real advantage between the two to warrant me spending a few hundred $$ Any hints/guidance welcome as its doing my head in. :{ |
Sorry to jump in on this thread.
There is an upgrade available from Lightroom version 1 to version 3 at £76.25 available directly from Adobe here: https://store2.adobe.com/cfusion/store/html/index.cfm?event=displayProduct&categoryOID=4400038&store=OLS-UK&distributionmethodOID=105 I'm not sure if it is compliance checking (the new software checks that the old version is already on the PC you are installing the new version on). It might be worth checking with Adobe pre-sales customer support before you purchase. There is also a 30 day free trial available for Lightroom 3 here: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=photoshop_lightroom&loc=en_gb As for Photoshop CS3, before upgrading this, I'd suggest you have a look at PS Elements to see if this will do what you need. Yeah, so you probably need a later version of LR and ACR to even open those RAW files. |

HTH Nick
Thanks Nick for the very handy tips there!! Mmmm....76 quid to upgrade from 1 to 3...i may be better off just purchasing L/R3 outright for an extra 30 quid and be done with it. Regarding CS3....i wasnt planning on upgrading this. I was more or less asking if there is a big difference between CS3 and LR3 to warrant the extra spend. 99% of my images are landscape if that helps |

I just love technology upgrades LOL.....they usually make my wallet nervous ! |
