New Nikon only magazine
 

So there will be a new Nikon only magazine. Excited?

From the announcement:

Firstly, we've got a new magazine coming out. Those of you who own Canon cameras may know our Canon magazine PhotoPlus. Well, Nikon owners no longer need feel left out when N-Photo launches next month. Why Nikon specific? Because we don't have to waste pages reviewing lenses which don't work; because we can make our detailed guides specific to the controls and features of your camera; and because we can give tutorials on using Nikon software as well as Photoshop. Look out for it from November 24th.

Not really.

I think such mags are aimed at people who are anxious to be told they made the right choice purchasing as they did. If you're deciding what to buy next you'd be daft to buy a brand specific mag., when you should be going for something that covers the market.

It might have some appeal if you want to buy a new lens or body and you want to know all about performance, but I suspect you'll find that in the general publications as well including the opportunity to compare with compatibles like Sigma, Tamron etc.

May well have a look at the first couple of issues to see how it shapes up.

I'll probably take a look at the first few issues, but really I think I know the equipment well enough; I just don't have much of a clue when it cones to putting a photograph together. :)

One thing I like about Photo Plus (canon only) is the focus. There is no wasted space with "do it like this on a Canon, like this on a Nikon, like this on Sony, like this on a Pentax, etc". There can be more meat, less filler.

except you have 'do it like this on a 450, do it like this on a 60D and like this on a 5D MkII' which is kind of the same isn't it?

Don, Cathus, that's what I mean: I'm happy to be told what to do, rather than how to do it with a particular tool. To be told how to do it with various tools of different makes, or vaiants of the same maker's tool, gets to be uninteresting.

I do consider these mags to be more for beginners and it makes it easier to follow if it only shown on the type of camera you have.

I sometimes pick up the Canon mag but it's not really aimed at me so I've not bought it in a long time.

I expect manyNikon users will get a good deal from the new mag as it takes them longer to get to grips with their systems than us Canon folk ;)
