AF Points?

Hey Guys its me again, ark. Would like to ask our friends about the AF Points regarding Canon EOS 5dMk2, it has 9 AF + 6 AF ASSIST POINTS.. what do they mean assist points? Thanks.

basically there are six focus points in the center that help the camera when in servo mode and the subject is moving
