Can anyone suggest....
a photographer I can study for college, who takes fairly abstract facial portraits?

It was suggested that I look up make-up artist Alex Box's work. Wow, his stuff is AMAZING! Not quite what I was looking for in my photos butwell worth a study!

Lucas Samaras, well known for this abstracted self-portraits and shots of others. Also made lots of distorted portraits using the polaroid camera. Also, not sure if your teacher told you this but its also worth looking at artists, sculptors etc for inspiration. Not sure if your course is similar to ones I did but we had to provide lots of research in workbooks alongside our photographs.
