upgrade advice
 

hi there , first post , looking to upgrade my canon 40d , not sure what to go for , 5d or 7d,
any advice would be welcome ,

Try reading the myriad of posts about this and researching the subject for yourself. Much more satisfying than buying what someone else suggests and finding that it's not what you wanted.

I do agree with Chris but may be not in such a blunt way . :)

To be able to give you any type of advice you will have to give us a lot more information than just the choice of two cameras , things like your budget and the type of photography that you want to do . Even then there is nothing to compare with going into a suppliers and handling the cameras themselves , I have read so many posts by people who have ended up buying a lower spec camera because it feels so much more comfortable for them and at the end of the day that is more important than almost everything else .

The only other thing that I would advice is to post this under the Canon section because as you know their a funny bunch and they all tend to hang out there . :)

I'm not clued up on canon but i think the 7d is aps'c and the 5d full frame. Lenses you may arleady own will not work on the 5d this may be a deciding factor for you.

General rule of thumb is if your want to do landscapes and portraits then the 5D otherwise if you want to do Sports, wildlife etc then the 7D due to the faster burst and 1.6x crop factor.

Other considerations are that for the 5D being a full frame camera the choice of lenses is reduced and they will be more expensive, having said that I am looking to go L glass lens all the way for my 7D at some point anyway.

Greenwing is right though it is worth searching through past posts as it is a common delema and one I was in myself.
