Passport Photo Printing

Hi
I wonder can someone offer some advice...

A group of us are going away and quite a lot need to renew or get passports including families with children going away for the first time. All in all about 15 separate sets of passport pics required.
Seeing as Jessops want £7+ per set...

I have a UK passport size template on some photo software and have downloaded the instructions from the passport office to ensure I follow the correct layout and everything is in order as required...

The passport office requests images are printed on on high quality, medium / low gloss or matt photographic paper, has anyone got any suggestions or advice on
[a] general advice and
[b] more importantly the printing and the paper recommended.

For Info: I already have a pack of Jessops A4 heavy Weight 230gsm Matt Photo Ink Jet paper. Would this be suitable?

Thank you in anticipation.

Ken

You will need a complete white background

That's not strictly correct. You need a uniform background which can be white, light blue, orange etc. They don't exclude (but they don't like) black, red or any dark colours.

As for the paper, we used to use light-weight gloss paper, but not glaze it. Now it's all done digitally you need to find some way of mimicking that.

If you're using a laser printer the solution is simple. Use Laser Glossy paper, which isn't glossy at all, but would be perfect for this. If you're using an inkjet you could probably use the same paper and get pretty good results.

Send me a PM with your address and I'll send you a few sheets.

Here I would not even think of doing my own passport photos. The Canadian government is VERY picky on the photos and they get rejected a lot.

I guess this is in reaction to spies using fake Canadian Passports.

Yep - whenever I terrorise America, I always go in through Canada...
Yep - whenever I terrorise America, I always go in through Canada...
Stop that! If anyone recalls some idiot, I cannot remember which one, in the Bush administration said the 9/11 terrorists came through Canada. They did not, it was shown they entered the US directly. There was never an apology for that either.

Yes, Canadians are still pretty annoyed about that accusation - and I cannot see how anybody can think that the US border guards (Immigration) at any of the border crossings are a soft touch. Pretty mean SOBs if you ask me!
