ND Grad Problem
 

Hello,

I have a 10-24mm wide angle lens and when i attach my cokin ND Grad Filter adapter to the lens it shows up in the viewfinder and picture either side up until 14mm and i causing a real pain as i cant take really wide pictures with the adapter attached. Has anyone else come across this problem?

Shaun it sounds like you have the Cokin P series filters which are only designed to work with lenses down to 28mm wide ( full frame ) or 18mm with a crop factor camera . You would need their pro range filter kits to get round this problem , they do do a P Wide-Angle Holder (BPW-700) P299 ( Quote ) This extra slim holder helps to eliminate vignetting down to 20mm focal length. Can hold 1 filter (can be a polarizer) and allows the use of filters with super wide lenses (focal lengths under 20mm) 35mm format .

I had this problem with my Tokina 12-24. I just cut the front two filter slots off of a Cokin-clone filter holder, and that does not vignette on my D300s at 12mm. Wider angles and smaller crops (Canon etc) I can't vouch for.

Same problem with my 10-24. I got the Cokin W/A filter holder and the problem has almost gone away. At small apertures you will still get a little vignetting @ 10mm, but around f8 or f11 it seems to be OK.
The biggest problem is the length of the grad filters. If you're doing a pic with lot's of sky you'll run out of filter before the grad hits the horizon! What's needed is a filter at least 50mm longer than the standard grad. No-one seems to make one though:(

My ND Grads are 100mm x 150 mm (they are Z size). I got that size knowing that there could be a vignetting problem once I got a 10-20 lens (which I have not got yet).

The other members are right, you do need the pro series. As far as I know it's called the X Pro series. You might need a different filter holder for it though....

There is Z pro (100 mm wide) and X Pro are 130 mm wide. Lee are 100 mm wide, the same at Z pro.
