Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM vs. Sigma 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6 EX DC HSM
 

I'm looking to get a wide angle lens. I've been looking at reviews and have come up with these two lenses.

Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM
Sigma 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6 EX DC HSM (hood fixed!)

I think the top Sigma might be a better option because you can't attach any filter to the other because of the fixed hood.
What does everyone else think?

Also what are the Pro's and Con's of a wide angle lens?

I use my 18-55mm kit lens (on the Canon 450D) all the time when shooting landscapes but I think its about time I looked for a better lens and upgraded. I also use this lens for macro.

Don't know anything about the 8-16mm but I do have the 10-20 and absolutely love it. It spends more time on my camera than any other lens.

What I would say though is that I have seen push on filter holders which may fit the other lens if you feel that you really have to go that wide.

Just had a quick look on WE and found this note in the additional information:-

Note:This lens comes with an adapter ring that slides over the fixed lens hood and allows the fitting of a 72mm filter.

So you should be able to get something to fit but I don't know the implications for vignetting.

I keep reading that the lens is 'perfect' for APS-C sensors. Would it be ok for 450D's MP-CMOS sensor?

I'm seriously thinking about this lens now after reading some reviews and seeing some photos.

The 450D has an aps-c sensor so you should be ok.

Are you sure it has a C-MOS sensor? Because both Amazon and Canon website says it has the other one!!!

I hate to say it, but yes, it does have both. APS-C is the size, CMOS is the type. It's the size that's relevant to this thread...

Sorry, if you don't know what WA will give you, why are you looking to purchase? One thing it won't give you is macro!

I use the 10-20mm and, of the two, would recommend that as more suitable - especially if you're unsure as to what WA brings to your photography!

I'm actually looking into getting the 8-16mm as OH's always pestering me for the 10-20mm and this way we can each have a wide :)
