As I have just really got interested in photography, I hardly know the basics about anything, I know how to edit my pictures in Microsoft Office Picture Manager, and that's about it.:confused: It would really help if you could give me some help and tips when taking photo's, etc. I am also looking to buy a camera that would be more ideal than the one I have at the moment, so any suggestions, or things that I should look for when buying a camera would help loads.

[I]Improving your own ability with the camera equipment of your choice is far better than relying on post production techniques to "fix" things later.

[I]I assume this is a genuine question, but it's not one that anyone can give you a short answer to. The best thing you can do is pick a few of the images you have taken that you consider to be your favourites, publish them in the critique sections of this forum and ask for critcal advice[/I].

[I]I can't imagine what camera you have now, so I can't offer any advice what camera may be "better" suited to you. Let us know what you are using now, and what camera you think you need to improve your ability. You may not need to upgrade at all just yet.[/I]

Your camera probably came with some software. That would be better than MS Office software. As mentioned, try to get it right in camera first, but to fix something you do need software. For something simple, you can try Picassa. It will remove red eye and do quick and easy adjustments. Up from that you could try The Gimp, it is free and similar to Photoshop, but the interface takes some getting used to.

Post some photos, people will give you feedback here in the forum and make suggestions.

This site is full of tips and plenty of videos to help you with a lot of basics.

Welcome Kezza. Friendly helpful bunch here. Have had a look at a few of the photos in your gallery and you remind me of me, when I strated. Your composition isn't too bad but what you lack is the skills and tips you can gain from being here, posting photos for critique and entering the weekend competition.

I'm sure you will find endless support and advice in the forum. You have only to ask and you will be saturated with answers.
I've had a look at your gallery and left some tips on one of you floral pictures which I hope you'll find useful.
My main observation is that you need to work on your composition. You seem to have grasped the 'Rule of Thirds' on your seascapes, which is good - but they need a little more interest, a rock, a tree, a bit of seaweed, anything to lead the eye.
I don't want to overload you with critiques, just keep taking pictures, post them up here and invite comment - that's the way to learn.

Thanks guys, you've been helpfull and I might post some of my faves on to the critiques :) and the camera I have currently is a Samsung S630... :D
