Your favourite own submission

Now the time of submission and voting is about over, I am curious which submission of your own is your favourite. Surely not necessarily the one with the most votes!

Here is mine:

My personal favorite.

Well, actually I have several favorites, but the 'Carol Singers' makes me smile. I find it quite hilarious (and typically British) but no one else seems to see it. Probably my weird Dutch sense of humour.

Good luck to all of you!

I thought your Eye one is the nicest / strongest entry ;) :)

Hi Andy,

Thanks for that. For me there is a difference between nice and strong in photographs. It's where the objectivity/subjectivity/feelings come in, I suppose.
My 'Eye' and my 'Silent Witness' are doing very well in the stakes, and I do like the evil eye, but the silettos are pure documentary and not 'nice' if you know what I mean.

I cannot judge pictures on their technical qualities (unless they are very obviously bad), so for me it is whatever takes my fancy.
Of your pictures, I like the one with the horses best. Purely on 'feelings,' but I also like the 'Wow Fly' and the 'Press Start' photos, and several of the other ones.

Of Lion's photographs, it's the one with the sheep. Super Autumn I think it's called. This reminds me of Victorian paintings, yet again a pure matter of 'feeling.'

I wonder if anyone has ever done any research on how the different sexes react to photographs?

I am very glad I do not have to select photographs for inclusion in the shortlist! It would be a very different series of pictures than will emerge here in due time. I'm convinced of that!

Fingers crossed for 'The Email'!

Regards,

Reinardina.

Hi Reinardina
I know exactly what you you mean regarding 'nice' - I have sunconciously avoided voting on some photos regardless of their quality simply as I feel uneasy looking at them (more in the way of 'what message is a picture provoking in others' as I think photographers have a responsibility in what they publish in public spaces).

I think technical qualities generally shine through, though I know a high resolution image allows better judgement.

Of my work, I guess those that have called for more creativity and skill in catching the light just right become natural favourites, though I am also very pleased by the 'Just Press Start' series I am doing, because of the challenge in motivating the eye around a picture.

I guess as a starving artist any selection process would hinge around composition, technical ability (and not camera spec) and commercial promise (including what would look good on a wall).

Hoping for the Email too - best of luck
Andy

Hi Reinardina and Andy,

Nice conversation about taste. I agree with your conclusions. Sorry I have no time now, but I wanted to look for some top-pics-for-their-niceity... if you know what I mean. Curious if we have the same taste there...

Yes, Super autumn was my second choice...
Andy, thanks for your e-mail (I got thát one at least...) in which you told me how to place a photo in a post. It works, as you can see above. (Shal I put it through to you, Reinardina?)

Bye for now, Lion

I barely managed to add my submissions yesterday night/morning. I'd appreciate if someone took a look :)

I couldn't really say which one I like best... I'm biased, what can I say :)
