Which Lens for New York???

I am off to New York next month, for some sightseeing and the marathon (hubby running). just wondering which lens would be best for the trip.

I have a Sigma 70-300
Nikon 18-55
Nikon 55-200

Thanks

Depends on what you want to shoot.

For walking around the streets and shots of the buildings and general location I'd use the 18-55. If you want to take candids of people then the 55-200 would be handy. I wouldn't bother with the Sigma (unless it's stabilised and the Nikon isn't).

Do you have anything wider angle?

Thanks for your reply.

I intend to take shots of general stuff and buildings, and the marathon itself (hubby likes some photos)..personally heading towards taking the 18-55.

I don't have anything wider angle. Is there any that wider angle that you would suggest? Is there one that you would suggest...don't intend to buy one specifically for this trip but maybe a future purchase.

What do you mean by stabilisation with the Sigma and Nikon?

Once again thanks...

He means the Nikon lenses you quoted have VR to help steady the shot but the Sigma hasn't go VR/OS. ;)

If you want wide angle then consider the Sigma 10-20mm lens. :)

Yes, OB's right.

Oh, and yes, if you're after a wide angle at some point the Sigma 10-20 is pretty much everyones favourite!

Thanks both for your advice...

Have looked at the sigma 10-20mm and will start saving...

thanks again

Why not consider buying your Lens in New York!! B&H and Adorama are both based in N.Y. and very much cheaper than U.K.

Indeed, start saving and use the money over there, don't forget to account for sales tax. Oh and you will need wider than 18mm if you are using a crop frame, i was struggling at times with 17mm of a full frame.
