D300 vs D7000

Hopeing to upgrade my D5000 this year and was going towards the D7000 but after reading some forums and reviews Im not sure the reason is the D300

i know the D7000 has a bigger mp so more details in picture, a better iso so even better for low light ,

the D300 has a quicker buffer time( think thats the right words ) more Af points , and a quick AF

just realy want your thoughts on the 2 (thou i think i know which way im going to go)

i know the D7000 was surposed to be a replacment for the D90 but some sites are saying its better than the D300 and some sites are not

The D300 is a bigger and heavier camera so you really need to handle both to see which feels the more comfortable to you. The D300 is built like a tank and is consequently significantly more durable than the D7000. Both will give you superb images but the D7000 has the edge, particularly at higher ISO. The D300's autofocus is probably the best of any APS-C DSLR particularly for sport, etc, where you need to track the subject.

If you are into video you will need to be comparing the D7000 with the D300s, not the D300.

At the end of the day it is a matter of which camera suits your photography needs best, but neither would disappoint.

I had a D90 originally which I really liked but upgraded to the D7000. I had a couple of problems with it. Firstly I had some nasty hot pixels during long exposures. i believe that these have now been sorted in the second firmware upgrade.

I mainly changed because i tended to struggle with some of the ergonomics around the controls with the camera body being a fair amount heavier then the D90 but not really being any bigger. I was always knocking other controls especially when using the function buttons.

I changed for a D300s and I have found this to better for me. I would not say it was better but I personally like it better for the size, balance and ease of use. The picture quality is possibly better on the the D7000 but this would be up for debate for for me the D300s controls are easier to use

The D7000 has had some "issues" unfortunately - isnt the D300s using the same sensor as the D90 any way? The D7000 looks like a cracking camera though from what ive seen though. I just hope nikon have actually put decent HD video on there because the D90 is terrible...

Is the D300s a genuine step up from a D90?? Someone at work is selling a body only for £775 and I am tempted, but can't help thinking I'd just be spending money for the sake of it! Or should I save my pennies for a D700(0)?

I could theoretically sell my D90 to part fund, although I am sorely tempted to convert to IR. the alternative would be to buy an older body (D70 maybe) and convert that.
