Does anyone else get this with PS or PS Elements?
 

Sometime when I go to save a file as a JPEG the file size is not always fully visible it seems to go through phases sometimes it is fine but most of the time it isn't, this is a pain.

Any ideas this happen in Photoshop and Elements?

I have narrowed this down a bit, the two dashes mean it is calculating the new size so is probsably processing the file as JPEG in a background thread. I seem to get this mostly with RAW files so maybe I am not being patient enough.

If I edit a JPEG it seems fine so maybe it is because with a RAW file which has 18MP woth of data it is a lot more porcessing even on my Core I7 setup.

you're right, if you leave it a few more seconds before pressing the save, the file size will appear. Happens on my system quite a bit with original (largest) file sizes.

Same, it just takes time to work it out, even longer on my woefully slow laptop, just the larger files take a lot longer, with mine even saving a JPEG takes a long time,

Cheers guys it has been bugging me for a while now, rainy days may be naff from the point of view of taking photos but a good time to get to the bottom of some of these sort of issues;)

Time to upgrade from 6gb to 12gb yummy:-)

Whoa there...! If you've already got 6Gb then you really should be ok unless you're working with huge files, like TIFFs with lots of layers or large panoramas. If there's really such a long delay it may be something other than RAM. It could be worth defragmenting your hard disk to open up bigger areas of empty space - allowing the program to save a big file in one place rather than searching for spaces to put bits of it.

Well, I run 32 bit myself with the max 4 gig of RAM. The files I work with are ginormous from my 5DMKII so perhaps a defrag is the answer as I always get 12 quality for my jpeg copies. Maybe get rid of some old programmes you no longer require or use. I keep as little as I can on my computer HDD and rely on external drives for my images. I also rarely go on-line if I'm working with Photoshop.
