Changeing user name

Can a user name be changed?

Amy Davies 22-09-09 01:59 PM

Hi nikono,

There is no facility for users to change their name, if you would like to register with a new username you will need a new account.

Thanks,

Amy

And presumably another email address?

MarkD 23-09-09 10:57 PM

Amy

The admins can change whatever they want. This site is based on an SQL database so any change to usernames will be reflected in all posts

You may not know how to do it but the guys who created the DB will. If they don't then WTF are they doing being admins to this site

Hi MarkD,

We do have the facility to change people's usernames, I meant with my post that there is no facility for the user to do this.

If a particular user is particularly unhappy with their username they can let me know and I'll try and sort it out for them.

Thanks,

Amy

I have no idea where you got my username from, as it was Tringle WP on the DCM site.

'I'll try and sort it out' means, in my case, just ignoring me. Specifically my emails.

I'm not going to waste any more time on this.

I would strongly suggest that anyone else in the same position doesn't bother either.

Hi Tringle,

Sorry I did not reply to your email, it must have got lost in my inbox, apologies for that.

Nobody here would have changed your username. I see that you joined the site in August - did you register with your current username?

I can see if I can locate the Tringle WP account and get back to you.

Thanks,

Amy

Hello Amy

As I have had no reply to my e-mail - I decided to reiterate my request using this thread - maybe you will see this here and reply.

I would have liked to have kept the "space" between my Forename and Surname.

Who's decision was it to remove spaces in names ? - or is this just another defficiency in the apparent second rate software the site appears to be using ? - I do note there are a few names with "spaces" in them now - has this "lack of spaces" problem been resolved since the beta version ? - if so - may I have my "space back" - please - if not - please let me know - so I can learn to live with this minor if somewhat irkesome error.

Regards Gil

Hi Gil,

I haven't received any emails from you - can you let me know where you sent it?

The system removed all spaces in usernames that were brought over from the old database, I will see if I can put the space back in your name shortly.

If I am able to change it this may mean that logging in with "GilRitchie" will no longer work and you will need to log in with the space in the name - I'll drop you an email shortly with all this for your information.

Thanks,

Amy
