Which is better PS Lightroom or Elements 9 ?
 

Hi All,

Having read lots of mentions about PS Lightroom, which I have never used, but I do use Elements 9, I was wondering what is the better of the two to use, for just general importing,managing and tweaking, etc etc of raw images?

Having never even used or seen a trial of the Lightroom, I wasn't sure what it does and therefore how it differs to Elements.

There is a trial of Lightroom you can download from Adobe. Lightroom is great for managing a lot of photos. The RAW conversion is the same as CS5, much more advanced than Elements. However, it does not have layers (there is a new plugin add on that you can get to do this, but I have not seen it).

I had Elements 9 already and then got Lightroom. I like Lightroom better for processing photos that do not need anything done with a layer.

There are plenty of video's on the net showing you how to use it, the general flow is
Library, Develop, Output
When in the develop module, follow the logical flow down the tool pallet (White Balance, tone, curves etc.

Interesting - I've seen the opposit recommended -
Generally the reason being that: as all adjustments are made via mathematical co-ordinates and then saved in a database, (so that the original image is never actually altered), once the 'lens correction' mathematics are done - they need to be re-calculated with every other change - seriously slowing the process down...

I know I have done the lens correction first and have not noticed any slow down on anything else. Your point does make sense though.
