Newbie - granting use
an Arts society in the UK want to use some of my pics...and will buy
how do I assign and document copyright to them... some will be "use-age but not exclusive" some will be "exclusive" How is the best "legal" way for UK to do this??? Steve |
Draw up a contract and specify what copyright goes with each picture. Click on the link below for the NUJ's Freelance fees guide and other infomation. As you read the article you will see hyperlinks for more infomation and a downloadable contract. Good luck and well done. :D

Yup, second what OldBoy says - and then make sure you enter this info in the metadata of the file (Adobe Bridge or Lightroom will allow you to add this info). This makes sure the info travels with the file so you can always refer to it if you think someone is being cheeky.
Yes, you can remove this metadata, but most people wont think about doing this - just adds a safeguard for you. |
You can also enter the metadata info in Photoshop (not sure about Elements). With the image open go to File> File info and click on Description tag, fill out the form and then click on the IPTC and do the same.
Here is a site that will list all the IPTC CODES: http://xml.coverpages.org/NITF30-subject-codes.html And here is a list of COUNTRY CODES: http://www.unc.edu/~rowlett/units/codes/country.htm These are helpful when filling out the form. Remember to inform your purchaser that IPTC data is attached to each file. Good luck. |
regarding metadata, it helps to set up a standard metadata file with all your info on it, then save it as an xmp file, that way (in Photoshop anyway) you can set up an action to import the metafile info for a whole folder of files in one go saving time & making sure your pics are covered.
