Espon R1800 producing dark prints help
I have an epson R1800 I posted earlier about this problem but I thought id solved the problem but unfortunately not.
Im using photoshop cs5 and every print I try printing I ends up alot darker than what on the screen,Ive tried uninstalling the drivers, reinstalling, tried printer managing colours as well as photoshop managing colours,Tried adjusting my screen,I prevoiusly had an epson stylus colour 3000 and the prints were phenominal in colour matches and produced natural skin tones ect.I decided that the old colur 3000 needed changed as it was a big lump and noisy. Now Ive bought this and Im wasting lots of paper and lots of ink trying to solve this problem. Does anyone have one of these printers and experienced the same problem ? Its getting to the point im thinking off selling as Im at the end of my tether with it. I dont have any calibration software to calibrate the screen but im not really wanting to spend hundreds of pounds to find it may not be the problem.Im using a laptop using a gloss finish lcd screen. If anyone can give me advice or even some settings to ty if they have the same printer it would be a major godsend!! Please help.!!:D |
Matthew, try using PS manages colour and then going into the printer's dialogue options and make sure printer colour management is switched off. From CS3 onwards this has been a bit of an issue and printer colour management isn't always turned off when using either PS manages or Printer manages. Wha you may be getting is both colour managing - and prints darker than those on screen is a good indicator you're double processing or double colour managing. Just wish I knew exactly where the option is to turn it off in printer dialogue.
This is why my creaking Dell desktop survives - it runs XP and CS2 and never has this problem. PS managing colour is exactly what I get :) Hope that helps. Cheers Andy |
Thanks Andy..
Ill try giving those settings a go,ill need to find out how to turn off the printer colour management.Ill keep you posted on my progress. Cheers....:) |
Ive tried to turn off the printer management(at least i think i did)and no joy,I also tried letting the printer manage the colours but still the same output.Any other ideas??:o:D

Hmmm, let me scratch my head for a bit.
Cheers Andy |
I have the same problem when printing from Elements 9 (tried all of the above) , but when I print from Picassa they come out fine.

Mathew one thing that I found was to view my image in proof setup within CS , this shows the difference you get between the SGR that the monitor uses and the CMYK that the printer uses .If you click VIEW > PROOF SETUP > CUSTOM , the next window that opens has a box to tick called SIMULATE PAPER COLOR .
You will now see how your image will look once printed and have the opportunity to make corrections to colour , brightness etc but don't forget do not save the changes because your images will look terrible once your out of proof setup . Don't ask me why I have to do this each time I want to print an image when I never had to do this with other image soft wear . Turning off colour management in the Epson properties box is a good idea ( with my Epson you go into advanced ,click ICM and then No Color Adjustment ) then make sure Adobe print options are Let Photoshop Determine Colors . Good luck I think you will need it Mark |
Matthew,
Have you calibrated your monitor? This is something I discovered quite recently. I bought the Pantone Spyder which allows you to adjust the gamma on your monitor to suit the printer output. OK, it's quite a lot of cash to lay out for a piece of kit you'll use once and stack on the shelf (alongside the 1997 games!) and only break out once a year, or when you buy a new monitor - But it takes all the guesswork out and I can thoroughly recommend it. |
