D7000 Raw files and PE8
 

I've recently upgraded my Nikon D90 to the D7000. I also have Photoshop Elements 8.

Has anyone else had problems in opening RAW files (NEF) produced by the D7000 into PE8?

Any suggestions on what's gone wrong or any solutions gratefully received

I suspect that I'm dealing with a new format that PE8 doesn't support (why?????).

Any thoughs welcome......

You probably need to upgrade your Adobe Camera RAW to the latest version, which has D7000 support.

I've tried that but it appears that the latest Adobe Raw( v. 6.3) isn't compatible with PE8 !

They do make things difficult (and expensive) for us. Looks like I have to upgrade to PE9 - annoying since I only bought PE8 a few months ago. :(

A couple of free alternatives for you - convert to jpeg or tiff using View NX2 which should have come with your camera, otherwise it can be downloaded from Nikon, or convert to Adobe dng using the Adobe DNG converter, which you can get from Adobe's website.

In the end I've decided that my best solution is to buy PE9 and upload the RAW "add on" for the D7000.

Can anyone confirm that PE9 will open D7000 NEF files? I have PE8 at the moment, which won't.

Thanks. Dragging Nikon NEF thumbnails onto the DNG converter icon (which I have saved on my desktop) seems to do the job. They then open in PE8 raw editor. I don't know if there is an easier way? It took me long enough to find my way around PE8, I don't want to start again with NX2!
