iphone entries
 

Can you enter a shot made with your iphone? The only thing is though there would not be a hi-res version of it available. Would it get judged the same? I have a couple I really like and would like to enter them in the creative category.

Would they get overlooked because of their low pixels etc?

Although - you'd be surprised at how good the resolution is even on the most basic phones - do you have an iPhone 3GS or 4?

Amy, mine is the 3GS model and some of the file sizes I'd say are below 1mb because some apps save them small.

@ Colin - I have to disagree. I'm not Pro, don't have a Pro level camera (Nikon D200) from the UK and I've placed twice in the last 2 years... I think it's better just to concentrate on making/taking shots with passion, than to passionately worry about anything else.

If you win, you win, lose and you lose, far more important things happen and happening in the world, Japan's a sobering reminder of that. If folks have a problem with the POTY the answers really simple, just don't enter :)

No UK photographer has ever won. Your work is very good, so show us it can be done.

I think a lot of previous entrants, even those like myself who have made the editor's choice in the past, won't be bothering this year.

Besides, I can't afford an iPhone.:(

Ahhh true but colin did not specify winners just "get anywhere"... maybe a UK winner this year though?.

To me, it has no bearing where someone is from, after all it's a world wide competition :)

Is it because of the entry fee or because they reduced the amount of the top prize? If the top prize had been £20,000 for example with other prizes being raised a bit do you think more would enter? Or should it stay the same and just offer free entry? Its not really different for me because I paid £10 last year to enter the portfolio category.

I was lucky to get my iphone for free off my brother-in-law when he got a free upgrade to his iphone 4 with his phone contract :-)

RE the POTY... I really don't see all the seeming fuss over a tenner (and thats 1/9th of my weekly pay as a carer)£10 for a photo comp is nothing in relation to most entry fee competitions (and all of any stature are pay to enter) and no one has a gun to their head to enter :)

Realistically, I will never win the competition so some might think I am throwing £10 away. But it was a really nice feeling last year to get some shots shortlisted and one commended. if I don't enter this competition at the moment my photographic life is just flickr and this. At least with a competition I can try and aim a bit higher and see how far I get, if you know what I mean :-) I don't smoke or drink so for me its like treating myself to something related to my photography interest.

Oh there are many competitions Karen but also other things to do/be done - your work is too good to restrict to just a couple of avenues!... make a Blurb book!... hunt around for all the free competitions...
