Nikon or Samsung superzoom?
Hi all
Totally new here & currently have a Fuji F50 which I bought for using underwater Am looking to buy a new land camera for self & wife . Like the look & feel of the Nikon P90 but also like the look of the new Samsung WB5000 . Advantages of the Samsung that I can see are , can shoot in Raw , you can use the Zoom in Video mode & it records in HD BUT I have been told by a couple of shops that they will not stock Samsung (although they can get them ) because they have had numerous problems with them . Any body on here with first hand experience of Samsung with/without problems ? Obviously once I can get my hands on a WB5000 I may not like the feel of it anyway ! Many thanks Colin |
Hi Colin - welcome to the forums.
I think the biggest difference between the 2 is their size. The Nikon is a fair bit larger. I would also consider the Panasonic DMC-TZ6/TZ7 and the Canon SX200IS. A good group review (including the Samsung) can be found here. There are also the Canon SX120IS and SX20IS both of which are more like the Nikon P90 in size. A side by side comparison of all these cameras can be found here |

many thanks but possiblly you are thinking of the Samsung WB500 , I am thinking of the soon to be released WB5000? |
Ah yes, my mistake!
Samsung don't have much of a history with bridge cameras so there is little precedent to base any opinions on. On paper there is little to choose between them but the ability to shoot in RAW could certainly be an advantage. |
Definitely look at the Canon SX10 IS and the New SX20 IS as they are probably the best compact superzooms on the market The SX20 can shoot in RAW not sure about the 10, it can also record HD video and CD quality sound. Image quality is very good.

well i would go for the panasonic dmc-fz 38. 12.1 meg 18x optical zoom shoots raw, hd video and as a o.s. vibration reduction
take a look at. http://www.trustedreviews.com/digital-cameras/review/2009/07/28/Panasonic-Lumix-DMC-FZ38/p1 |
