Where is cheapest for Nikon kit?
Hi Nikon-lovers,
I'm in the process of blowing my savings on some shiny new kit. I've been leafing through the back end of camera mags for weeks now trying to find a good deal and I thought I'd ask the good members of this forum for advice. Here is what I'm after:

Nikon D3S
Nikon D300S
Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8
Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8
Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8
Nikon SB-700 Speedlight
Naturally I'd like to buy them domestically as I need the UK warranty. I've recieved a few quotes from Jessops (£8950) and Calumet (£8756) but they're still a bit too much for me. Does anyone know of a good retailer who offers cheap prices, or can be haggled with? Also, with rumours abound that the Nikon D4 and Nikon D800 will be making an appearance within the year would I be wiser to wait for a price drop? I almost feel like I'm cheating on my trusty D80. She's been good to me. |
I have found Park Cameras quite reasonable in the past.
The trouble with that list is most are less than three years old, so unlikely to find secondhand. Even so, Mifsuds have a secondhand 70-200mm F2.8 VR II at £1,499 and Greys of Westminister have a secondhand 14-24mm £1,179. They are not big savings but if you were to buy all the equipment from Like Mifsuds, they might be willing to reduce the price overall. If you don't ask you don't receive. :D http://www.mifsuds.com/acatalog/Used_Nikon_AF_Lenses.html |
Another vote for Park Cameras.
I bought my D90 from them last year and had originally intended to part exchange my D80. The salesman told me that I would be able to get far more for it by selling it on eBay rather than take the trade-in price he could offer, and he was right I got over twice what they offered! I thought it was good of them to suggest that as they could have picked up a very good D80 body for a song. With a shopping list like yours they should be able to do you a good deal. |
I get most of my stuff from warehouseexpress. I find them pretty competetive and , especially if you often buy bits and pieces (paper, cards etc.), it saves using lots of different dealers and minimises the No. of people who have your card No..

Park Cameras are possibly your best bet with your shopping list being towards the top end ref specs I doubt if the smaller shops or the highstreet regulars would have the stock.
Boy I wish I had your cash flow |
try london camera exchange, i get loads of deals out of them

I should imagine both Nikon D3S, Nikon D300S will be replaced this year maybe wise to wait until next month. Rumors say Nikon have a big release and told staff not holidays in August, i hope its a d400!

Try 7DayShop. They're based in Jersey, so no problem with warranties.
One question. Why a D3S and a D300s? The D300s is not much lighter, not a great deal smaller than the D3S and, of course is DX as opposed to FX. If I had both, I know which would be gathering dust. |
