Sony A350
 

Is there any way of setting a "Rule of Thirds" grid up on the Sony A350 from the menu, I have been right through the menus and instruction manual and can't see an option for it so I suspect the answer is no...but if anyone does have a way of doing this please let me know...;)

I’m not sure if this would help but there is the option of changing the focusing screen to one that maybe has a grid on it. There is a website that seems to indicate that you can change the screen.

Their 'thirds' don't seem very accurate though. $76.56 don't know if they ship to UK though.

Thanks for that guys but not really what I was looking for, on my old Fuji S6500fd bridge camera you could set up a the "rule of thirds" grid both on the lcd screen in live view mode, and in the viewfinder mode as well, it helped keep me keep my horizons straight (well relatively anyway <g>) and I was wondering if anybody knew whether this was a function available on the A350 as I can't find it (which suggests it isn't there) or if there is sticky screen protector type thing that has the "grid lines" on it that you can order and then put on the lcd itself....alas such a thing does not seem to be available, wonder if I can make something....mmm Blue Peter skills coming to mind sticky back plastic, inner cardboard tube from toilet roll and a yoghurt pot.....;)

The a350 doesn't overlay a grid through the viewfinder. I'd also avoid those screens as the a350 isn't designed for interchangeable focussing screens - they're bodges rather than anything else.

You could try using the focussing points in the viewfinder to keep your horizons level

If you purchase a screen protector and draw the lines on it with a fine permenant marker and a set square then this will work in live view. Not the best solution but it will help a little and keep your scrn proctected.

To upgrade rayner_mcr 's post. Use a set square and scribe some fine scores into the screen protector surface. Then rub some ink into the scores and clean the excess off the surface. This way you can obtain some very fine and professional looking lines. I have done this in other applications.

Hi Krennon....... I square up my odd squonk horizon in PS Elements..... takes two minutes. I agree with the previous posters that the A350 does not allow interchangeable viewfinder but they have given some great ideas. Good luck
