Jessops turning down a sale!
My brother has an old Centon PV27 tripod that's lasted since 1990 'ish sort of time, but recently the little removable plastic base for the camera has got a little perished and bits have cracked away so he went in to Jessops in Exeter (his local store) to see if he could get a replacement. The assistant was helpful and although the tripod is old and now discontinued he managed to find a replacement for sale for just 45p. Great, except that the replacement part was in their Portsmouth store. The sales assistant rang the Portsmouth store but was unable to get the part because apparently Jessops wont send individual items between their stores where the value is less than £5. My brother then offered to pay the £5 himself, there and then, to Jessops so they could transfer it but unbelievably Jessops still refused to sell him the part! They couldn't allow him to pay the costs of sending the part!

Why dont you find a willing person on here to go into the Portsmouth stores and send it to him, Your brother could then send them a cheque. Jessops are being pathetic but I am sure someone would help. I'm not far from Portsmouth but with a little one and work I just wont be able to make it.

He was probably told we cannot do it on the hope he would buy a new tripod... If not they only lost 45p, worth the gamble

I've already asked a mate living in Portsmouth to see if he could get it for us once he's back in town. I just thought the whole attitude from Jessops in Portsmouth was totally abysmal. The assistant in Exeter tried to be helpful and my brother is a good customer, though his goodwill was severely stretched a couple of years ago when he purchased a Sony Alpha from them and found it to be an incomplete and dusty "show" model once he'd gotten it home and opened the box (he returned it for a full refund and purchased one separately from Comet in the end).
I'd have thought with many people only using Jessops to go window shopping before making their purchase on the internet that Jessops would want to hang on to my brother's custom (he doesn't have a credit card so internet shopping is out) even if for only a 45 pence product that he was offering to pay 1200% more for! |
James, if either of you are O2 customers, get a load and go/cash manager card. Prepaid visa card, with charges only if you use it for international transactions, you'll never need the high street again!
