i have just started useing my new macro lens on my e410 can anyone tell me if the lens retracts back flush when the is turned of

Hi a fuesdale and welcome to the forums.

I'm not actually sure what it is you're exactly wanting to know, because I believe the lens you're talking about is a fixed prime lens. Therefore, it is not a zoom lens and no part of the lens projects out further in front of the camera body, just the lens elements move inside it's casing.

Sorry Ian, the front of the lens extends quite a long way as the lens focuses closer.

It won't retract automatically, you have to use to focus ring to focus to infinity and the lens will retract. However, because the Olympus uses a "focus-by-wire" system you will have to have your camera turned on for it to work.

Tips? Well, I don't do much macro (a decent macro lens is top of my wish list).

I suppose the best advice is to practice. Have a look at the [url=http://www.photoradar.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=56]macro section[/url] of the forum. Then pick a subject and keep shooting. You'll probably find a tripod useful a lot of the time and you'll learn a lot about depth of field and focusing as well!

One of the best tips I got when photographing insects on flowers was to put the camera on a monopod, that way you have plenty of leeway to move the camera chasing the insects, bees etc but have extra stability.

Manual focus is often more helpful than auto - focus manually then move the camera closer or further away to get it spot on (when you're not using a tripod)

RE trouble with my 35mm macro lens.Ifoundthe lensto be faulty,it got so bad iwas unable to focus on anything.I informed the retailer about the problem i had.they exchanged it with no problem.I have been using it for a few day now.THIS IS A FANTASTIC LENS

Sorry Chris this is incorrect, when turning the power off the 35mm macro lens retracts all the way back from full extension, even if it is in manual focus mode.

And yes fuesdale it is a very good lens for the price. :)

Paul, do you have the "reset lens" function turned on? I used this on an E-510 and an E-410 and it didn't retract but I turned off the reset lens function.
