Should I ...Shouldn't I??

I received an invitation to 'An Evening with Martin Parr' this morning and it's put me in a quandry.

I see from my very crowded diary that I'm due to clean the oven that evening, so I'm on the horns of a dilemma here.

If it had been the following evening there would have been no problem, I'm in for a session of acupuncture on my eyeballs that evening. No contest, acupuncture every time!

Please advise!;)

Pass it across to Karenoliver - he's her hero I think :)

Why not ask Martin Parr to come to yours? You could share the oven cleaning together while you chatted. Obviously he would have to bring his own yellow rubber gloves with him, but you could provide a cup of tea and ginger buscuits. Saves missing out.;)

Alan - so glad to hear that you have been singled out, sorry, selected to attend this 'Evening'. I am unfamiliar with Martin Parr's works, could you give me an appraisal of said works at some length please? Feel free to continue over leaf!

Abers, you clean ovens??? Can we arrange a date for you to clear your diary so that you can clean mine? :)

@ Drew, you don't wanna know - Parr is like Marmite, you either love or hate his work. Suffice to say (and space limitations not withstanding) I fall into the latter category.

Regards,
Denise

He is! :-)

I admit to going totally gah gah over anything Parr ;-)

Karen

PS You should go Alan, I bet you would learn a lot from him.

Depends if you live near Bristol or not, I assume its the evening in May you are talking about. Not very often you can hear an interesting talk with a magnum photographer, and for just £5 its a bargain! :-)

Can I suggest you invest in something like the NeffNavigator oven. This is built with special Ceramiclean surfaces which, when used in conjunction with the manufacturer's instructions should keep your oven remarkably clean & free you up for such Martin Parr-type experiences which come your way.

@ Keith T

All he would do is take pictures of the oven and tell me and everyone else they are masterpieces!

@ Drew.

Just a little advice, ignorance is bliss.

I've not been singled out, if I have I'm not aware of any misdemeanor I've committed recently?

@ Karen

Oh no! D'you mean to say he's appearing twice this year, this one's next month in London.

I think perhaps the only thing I would learn is how to hoodwink members of Magnum into admitting me into their august midst.

@ Cathus.
Nice try but oven purchasing is my wife's responsibility. She applies the same criteria to ovens as I do to cameras. It's what the apple pie turns out like that counts, not how many bells and whistles it has.

I'm playing hard to get really, I know he's promised all the attendees that I'll make a guest appearance and I just want to see him squirm. :D
