LOOK and LEARN
 

I bundled togeter some book tokens that were given to me for a recent birthday and Xmas and visited the local Waterstones to see what took my eye. I was delighted to find in the photography section a copy of Elliott Erwitt's 'Personal Best'. A hefty book that I should think contains all his published work.

I'm a long time fan of his, not just for his photogaphy but for the humour that his images portray, since I think that photography should not only be taken seriously but also provide a smile or even the occasional chuckle. Elliot Erwitt certainly does that.
I even invented a word to describe his work, which when I googled it to see if it had crossed anyone else's mind, I was amazed to find it hadn't'

Ewitticism
N. [err-witti-ciz-um]

- The belief that there is always something humorous and quirky to be photographed if you look hard enough.

-A photographic image characterized by cleverness in perception and choice of viewpoint.

If you get the opportunity to look at his work closely you will soon learn to have the beginning of that holy grail we all seek i.e. 'A Photographer's Eye'.

I 'd not heard of Elliot Erwitt, but I'm a relative newby.However, I see what you mean. Your attempts at "Erwittisms" are really good. They brought a smile to my face. You've taken some great photographs over the years.

I like his work and I agree that its important that not all photography is serious. Another photographer who has a sense of humour is William Wegman. The shots of his dogs are both funny and really well photographed!
