Christmas photography?
 

What is everyone going to do over Christmas? Has anyone got any photography planned? We don't have kids so my husband and I are planning on either photographing at an abandoned psychiatric hospital or maybe travelling to Liverpool to do some street and urban style shots on Christmas day. Tomorrow we might go to the zoo to see all the animals in the snow.

I'm working Xmas Day, Boxing Day & BH Monday on a day shift, so will miss the kids opening their presents, yet again.

And just for good measure I'm on night shift on New Years Eve, again.

My parents both worked jobs where they often had to work a many Christmases. When we were little we always called dad at work if he was working to tell him what Santa brought us. There was never much going on with security at a nuclear power plant on Christmas day. As he said, someone had to be there to turn the crank :)

Bad luck Cathus, but just think of all that washing up you'll miss too :)

Not sure what I'll be doing - a new body is arriving (camera that is, mine is beyond help) so it would be rude not to go out a few days...

Myself, I'll probably get out for some walks and see what I can shoot. No doubt there will be some landscapes to be shot.

I can remember the time when I worked shifts, I had no children then so always got the christmas day work, people always need electricity....

I've got family staying from Christmas Eve through to New Year, so expecting a hectic time. Apart from family photo's I doubt I'll be using the gear much :( Or maybe it will be a good opportunity to go and take some of those 'characters in a pub' shots Amy was talking about on a different thread :D

For anyone not venturing out, family Christmas shots can be a nice project.

Phil, good idea about characters in the pub, how about characters sleeping in the road? I saw some tonight, drunk as skunks flat out on the ice!

Actually, that was me and my mates - We've sobered up now :D - only kidding....

Cheers Karen, I'll look out for the drunks and get a shot using the flash gun. The bright light may make them think they've seen the light leading to heaven and make them stop drinking so much :)

Pints on the rocks then? Or would it have been 'shots' on the rocks? Or just 'Holiday on Ice'?

I may go out and try (again) to shoot a particular area of the Common. It is beautiful, but I cannot get it right. Have been back several times now and every time it is not how I 'see' it in real life.

As I don't drive (had to give up my licence when my eyesight deteriorated) I will have to rely on leg power, so I won't venture out very far.

Like everyone else, I used to miss a lot of Christmas days and weekends because of shift work. I hated it so much that I decided to start my own business which I ran for 30 odd years. The problem was that my wife and I then missed out on a whole lot more as we had to put that before family gatherings etc. Life is wonderful now we are retired. I only wish I'd done it when I first left school.

Happy Christmas to everyone whatever you are doing, and don't eat and drink too much. :)
