What's it for?

Not being a Facebook subscriber, I can't fathom what is the difference between this Forum and the PRadar Facebook section. When you see the invitation to 'Join us on Facebook' and your interest is aroused, you click to see what it's all about and there appears to be the same posters on there saying the same things as on here.

WHY? What's the point of it all?

Hi Alan,

You're right, there is some crossover, but there also some good reasons to get involved over there.

If you're already on Facebook, it's very quick to post something on a wall, or reply to a comment, picture etc, right from within the website you're already using.

Along the same lines, it's easy for us to quickly alert our Facebook followers when we've posted a new review, news story, technique etc - and speaking from personal experience this has often been my first alert that new content has been posted and where I've clicked from rather than necessarily always going to the homepage of that particular site.

But perhaps our users are better placed to answer this than I, there's over 9000 of them so we must be doing something right - what does everyone else think?

Its faster and more user-friendly. I have an iphone and a facebook app so if I am travelling or I am somewhere other than home its easier to keep up to date with news articles and photo of the day for example. Plus you get an email when someone replies to a photo you have posted or replied to a message. As well as that facebook has other photo pages so it means you are keeping them all under once place, all your likes and joins. Plus there are daily competitons. I won a brilliant dvd and yesterday someone won a dvd and lots of magazines etc..

So why go on to PRadar?

Facebook Alan? I'm sure I've seen you call it something else somewhere. :)

I don't use it myself. And I don't have a problem with it. The only thing I would say is that PR mustn't lose focus and post content on the main site first. Don't include offers, deals or competitions or giveaways on farcebbook that that don't appear on their main site.

Hi Alan,

To be honest with you mate, FaceBook is really a waste of time. I have an account for which I visit about once a month for a few minutes just to clear the inbox. I get all sorts of invitaions to become friends with people I have never heard of, many of them from beautiful looking ladies of the night. Well, that's what I presume they are, as I can't honestly think of any other reason that they would want to befriend an old codger like me. It's good to keep up with family though, but then the old fashioned phone, or web cam, or even a letter, is just as easy. Other than that I see no real purpose for it than posting your information on the web for others to try and see, covertly or otherwise. Really not worth the effort of signing in...:D

Well what I'd say is if you have 30 seconds and you happen to be on Facebook anyway, you can quickly comment on our page.

If you have more time and want to read more in depth discussion then you'd come onto the forum.

And obviously our news stories, feature galleries, techniques, reviews etc are all on the site, not Facebook, which is just a means of communicating that new stories have been published.

We run lots of competitions both on here and on Facebook. The competitions on Facebook are usually very small prizes of low value, compared to the prizes we've given away on here which have included DSLRs and lenses.

At the moment we're running a special Christmas giveaway, open to everyone here: http://www.photoradar.com/news/story/christmas-2010-giveaways

Let me know if you have any more questions,

Amy

Ah Lurky you mean when I inadvertantly put an 'e' in between the a nd the c. That's whats called a Freudian slip I think!;)

Keith I've had the odd Email from someone called Lulubelle asking me to join her on Faecebook since she apparently had something of interest to show me! But coming from the old school like you, I declined to answer since we hadn't been properly introduced. Must keep up standards you know!;)
