Congratulations POTY Commended Portfolio photographers
Some fantastic portfolio's!
I couldn't choose my favourite that's for sure! - they are all of such a high standard both subject wise and technique. Congratulations to all. Can't wait to see the winner! Phil |
Yes, well done indeed to everyone got a commended and highly commended!
Here's the link if you need it: POTY 2010: Commended portfolios. The winner of the portfolio category is announced on December 7th, along with the main categories and young POTY winners. |
Nind You, I think Sazzrah has an edge on the men. :)
After all there are not many male photographers willing to try the same theme inside Gent's toilets. Not if they don't want to visit casualty anyway! Phil |
Well done! Some great portfolios and nice to see one of my favourites do well.

I think with so many great photographers out there, getting Commended or Highly Commended is a great achievement in it's own right. My comment about Sazzrah is to do with the content of her portfoliio and originality. She has the edge here because a man taking photographs in a mens toilet would be considered strange by most other men at the least, yet Sazzrah has performed it brilliantly in the ladies. Phil |

Phil
It was my favourite portfolio too, Phil. It was really original and told a story. The lighting was especially good as I know female toliets are not always the best lit of places. Karen |
It was one of my favourites too - I'd love to do something like this one day.
Seeing that and Martin Parr's latest exhibition really inspired me to try something like this - it's just getting the confidence up to point my camera at strangers that's the problem... I don't get any confrontations with my usual subjects :) |
Yeah,
It was documentary , informative, imaginative, showed distinctions between the various groups in society in a place that only part of the population ever see's. It invites questions like, what happens to these people on ordinary weekdays? (I'm assuming from the way the girls are dressed this is weekend work), is it spread over several locations or all in the one location? What was the thoughts in the minds of those being photographed? etc. Terrific stuff! If this only got to the commended level, then I can't wait to see the winner on 7th Dec. Phil |
