Ultra small compact advice please.....

Evening all.

I'm after a really small compact with a wide angle lens for taking snaps when I visit New York in April.

So far, the one that appears to fit the bill is the Sony DSC TX5. Are there any viable alternatives? Has anyone used a TX5 and if so, what do you think?

Thanks in advance for your help.

The Panasonic TZ8 is a great camera, my friend has one and it takes good pictures, also has manual controls ! - It's cheaper than the Sony and got a far better zoom range. Here's a list of reviews to look at http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&source=hp&biw=1280&bih=871&q=panasonic+tz8+review&aq=0&aqi=g3&aql=&oq=Panasonic+TZ8+rev&gs_rfai=&fp=2681f0dd6d9da3e6

Or there is the TZ10 which is the same with Video but still cheaper than the Sony.

All that said, the Sony HX5 is very nice little camera ! http://www.warehouseexpress.com/buy-sony-cyber-shot-hx5-black-digital-camera/p1519506

Fuji's F200EXR is very good but not quite as wide angle as the others.

Do you have a budget to work to or any other spec for us to go on ? Do you want manual control ?

I think that will keep you going for a while.

Hi Rob, welcome to the forum

Best camera in this range is the Panasonic TZ10. The TZ10 has more than just video over the TZ8 as well - the biggest difference is actually the GPS in the TZ10 and geotagging would be great for your holiday.

The Canon Powershot SX120 IS comes second. The Sony is a comfortable third.

The Fuji is OK but falls behind slightly in some respects. Good in low light (for a compact anyway).

The only real problem with most of these is that they're not reallysmall, but they are pocket sized.
