if you could only have one lens

just a thought... if you could have only one lens for your camera, what would you pick? and why?

Easy, the Nikon 70-200mm F2.8 VR which I use as a walkaround lens normally with the 1.4 converter attached. With this I can shoot birds, sunrises/sunsets and landscapes. I can swap the 1.4 converter to the 2x converter to give me 400mm range. :D

I really love my nifty fifty f/1.8 but if I could have any lens it would be the same, Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 VRII

I have the 50mm F1.4, but don't use it that much. :D

Hmmm. I'll swap it with you for a packet of Werther's Originals and a Sherbert Lemon

I'm lucky enough to own the one lens I would want.
70-200mm f/2.8 IS USM (Mk1)

Only one lens? OMG. I think it would have to be a 10-500mm f2.8 VR with macro function.

Steve.
