Hot shoe extension cord

hello all,

just invested in a 580ex ii for my canon 7d but everyones been telling me to get a hot shoe extension cable. Was looking on amazon and the official canon one is £60> but there are other cheaper alternatives unbranded. But was just wondering if anyone could recommend one for me. as really unsure which one to go for as some have a threaded connection and some have the quick release.

cheers

frank

I use the jessops £35.00 full ettl and so far no problems at all. However rather than use an extension cable why not use the built in wireless flash transmiter and you can then put the 580 anywhere

that was my original intention but unfortunately the 580 exii is infrared so the camera still has to see the flash. where as i wanna use the flash behind the camera. was is the diffrence between a ttl lead and as you mentioned a full ettl lead??

Not much .The main advantage being that every function of the electronic communication is available .I.e can use the camera to set all the features on the flash via the menu system.

The cheapo Jessops flash gun I got works with the camera too but not all those functions are available .

There is also another option .Use a pc synchcable from camera to gun.I would think it would be cheaper and you would certainly be able to get more distance for your money .
