Flashgun Purchase...
Hi all, I'm looking to by a flashgun for my Nikon D5000 but as a total noob I am unsure what things I need to take into account when choosing one other than budget of course.
I deally I'd like one with tilt and swivel and preferably an inbuilt diffuser if such a ting exists? Budget of up to £150 or thereabouts. Thanks in advance. |
flashgun purchase
For what its worth I'd save up a bit more and go for a new sb 600.(or maybe second hand from ebay a bit cheaper) It will give you all you need if you are just starting off and will still have plenty in reserve for when you progress. I believe it's fully compatible with most Nikon DSLR's so if you decide to upgrade your camera in a few years (providing you stick with Niks) it will still likely meet all of your flash needs, so ultimately saving you money. PS I'm not a Nikon employee or anything but have been more than happy with all the Nikon gear I've bought :)

Ok, thanks for your reply :D |
I can't remember for sure, but I don't think that the 600 can act as a wireless commander - its slave only and not all bodies an act as a commander either so you could be a little limited...

No, the SB-600 can't be a commander, and the D5000 can't be a commander either. So even if the OP bought an SB-900, which can be a commander, he'd have nothing to command. He could then buy an SB-600, of course. Or he could just get the SB-600 now, and buy either an SB-900 or a D90 when he's ready to go wireless. It's what he already has that is the limiting factor, not what he might get. Chris |
