Photoshop - improving old photos

I've been downloading much of my own family history from old slides, many taken on old Kodak Instamatic cameras, where the quality is ..er...dodgy to say the least. Some are very grainy. Has Digital Camera/PhotRadar produced videos on ways to enhance these shots in Photoshop? I use Elements 6. Any other suggestions ?
Many thanks,
Charlie

The graininess of old films is part of their charms and by using the brightness and/or contrast sliders old photos can be improved. See site below.

A Google search typing in 'restoring old photographs' will, I feel sure, throw up a whole host of online video tutorials - some better than others. However, depending on just how many slides you have to work on, and just how much time/committment you are willing to spend it might be worth your while buying a book on the subject. The book by Katrin Eismann - Photoshop Restoration and Retouching is one I can highly recommend and have in my collection.
